Compaq Offers Latest Intel Processors in 8-Way ProLiant Servers

Compaq Computer Corp. announced the release of ProLiant 8-way server models featuring the latest Intel Pentium III Xeon processor technology. The ProLiant 8000 and ProLiant 8500 will be offered with the new Xeon processors at 700 MHz with 1 and 2 MB of Advanced Transfer Cache.
Compaq (www.compaq.com) also announced a new SAP (www.sap.com) Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark run on the ProLiant 8000 and ProLiant 8500. A benchmark of 7,500 SD benchmark users at 1.73 seconds average dialog response time was produced, generating 767,330 fully business processed line items per hour.
The benchmark was achieved with SAP R/3 Release 4.0B, a foundation of mySAP.com; Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) SQL Server 2000; and Microsoft Windows 2000. The benchmark exceeds the previous record of 6,700 SD benchmark users, a record also held by Compaq. The new benchmark used ServerNet II with a ProLiant 8000 server with eight 700-MHz, 2-MB processors, 4 GB of memory, and 701 GB of total disk space for the database.
Additional servers included a mix of 25 ProLiant 8000/8500 servers with eight 700-MHz, 1-MB processors and 2 GB of memory for update/dialog, and a ProLiant 7000 server with four 500-MHz, 2-MB processors and 1 GB of memory for message and enqueue with the database server averaging 97 percent and the application servers averaging 66 percent CPU utilization. - Isaac Slepner
