SP1 Available for Application Center 2000

Microsoft Corp. this week released the first service pack for the centerpiece of its scale-out strategy -- Application Center 2000.
Application Center, a brand new product in Microsoft's .NET Enterprise Server lineup when it shipped in March, is designed for improved Web site performance, guaranteed uptime and simplified management. The server software provides for automatic configuration to speed the addition of new servers to large server farms and provides a form of clustering called Component Load Balancing (CLB) that is designed to improve application server performance.
Application Center 2000 is one key element in Microsoft's strategy to allow applications to scale by ganging small servers together rather than using one large server to perform all the work.
The 16 fixes in SP1 address problems in setup, cluster services, CLB, monitoring and replication. While SP1 does not include new features, it does include Microsoft Health Monitor SP1 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 MSDE SP1.
SP1 system requirements beyond the base requirements of Application Center 2000 are 110 MB of hard drive space, Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2000 Advanced Server and IIS 5.0.
The service pack can be ordered on CD or downloaded here. It arrives as a 24 MB executable file.
