Pop Quiz: System Center 2012: Configuring VMM

Applies to the "Configure System Center Infrastructure" objective of Exam 70-247.

A company's administrator needs to install and configure System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) and store the VMM keys in Active Directory to provide for a highly-available installation.

Which of the following needs to be created in Active Directory using ADSI Edit prior to the installation to store the VMM keys?

  1. VMM Key Management Container
  2. Encryption Key Management Container
  3. PKI Management Container
  4. Distributed Key Management Container

Answer is D.  System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager needs to store encryption keys in Active Directory in a container named Distributed Key Management Container for a highly-available installation.

Quick Tip: If the VMM server installation needs to be moved to another server or the server is a highly-available VMM server, the choice needs to be; use distributed key management to store encryption keys in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) instead of storing the encryption keys on the local VMM server.
