Dell Ships New Departmental Server

Dell Computer Corp. this week introduced a new dual-processor server designed in part for enterprise departments and workgroups.

The 1500c, intended for e-mail, Web serving and file-sharing, ships with Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Red Hat Linux and is available immediately. Dell lists the starting price at $1,400, but the figure doesn't include an operating system.

Dell loads the servers with the ServerWorks HE-SL chipset, supporting 1.13 GHz Intel Pentium III processors, and on-motherboard Gigabit Ethernet from Intel.

Standard features include ECC memory and hot-plug hard drives. Options are advanced RAID and hot-plug, redundant power supplies.

The servers include Dell's OpenManage Server Assistant system management software; allow for monitoring of temperature, fan and voltage; and have the capability to automatically reboot in case of operating system failure.
