Sybari Updates E-mail Security Lineup

Sybari Software this week updated its product line for securing e-mail through anti-virus, anti-spam and content-filtering products.

The company announced general availability for Sybari Enterprise Manager, Advanced Spam Manager, Antigen 8.0 for Exchange and Antigen 8.0 for SMTP Gateways.

Sybari's core product is Antigen, which includes four different anti-virus engines (two from Computer Associates, one from Sophos and one from Norman). Users can select to have one, two, three or all four engines scanning messages.

One of the key updates to Antigen from version 7.5 to 8.0 is support for hot updates. In the past, an Exchange server had to be cycled down, although not rebooted, to update Antigen with hotfixes or service releases. Now the product can receive maintenance updates without taking the Exchange service down, according to Sybari executives.

Sybari Advanced Spam Manager, aimed at doing to spam what Antigen does to viruses, has been updated to support junk mail folders for users. The new version integrates with Exchange Server 2003 and its Spam Confidence Level technology. On the client side, the product integrates with the Junk Mail folder in Outlook 2003, although it can also provide its own end-user junk mail folders in the absence of Outlook 2003.

The brand new product in the group is the Sybari Enterprise Manager. It is a Web-based management platform for centralized deployment and reporting of all the Antigen 8.0 servers in an organization. Although it has been possible to manage multiple Antigen servers previously through the Antigen Central Manager, the process required scripting and was administratively intensive, Sybari representatives said.

Sybari Enterprise Manager will allow central scans and virus engine updates, HTML-based reporting on outbreaks and problem viruses and management of groups of servers, which can be filtered by multiple attributes.
