Applies to the "Creating and Maintaining Active Directory objects" objective of Exam 70-640 TS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration.
Q: What are the requirements to enable the Active Directory recycle bin in Windows Server 2008?
- All servers must be running Windows Server 2008 R2
- All DCs must be running Windows Server 2008 R2
- Adprep to prepare both the forest and domain
- Raise the functional level of the forest and domains to Windows Server 2008 R2
Answer and explanation is below.
Answer is B, C, D: When building a new Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory forest Adprep is not required since the schema will already contain all the necessary attributes for the recycle bin. However, if upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2 from Windows Server 2003 or 2008, Adprep must be used.
Quick Tip: To enable the recycle bin when ADLDS (Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services) are present use the following command:
Ldifde.exe –i –f MS-ADAM-Upgrade-2.ldf –s server:port –b username domain password –j . -$ adamschema.cat
