Book Reviews
Useful Books for the SQL 7.0 Data Warehouses Exam
Get a thorough understanding of OLAP with this excellent resource.
Microsoft OLAP Solutions is the only book I know
that concentrates specifically on Microsoft OLAP
Server (formerly code-named "Plato").
The authors do an excellent job of covering the
architecture of this product, and show how to
design databases to be used as data warehouses.
The discussion of the MDX query language covers
everything you might need for the Data Warehouses
exam and much more. They also offer excellent
coverage of optimization and security, as well
as two fully worked-out hands-on tutorials. The
book's CD includes all of the data for the tutorials
and examples plus several utilities for working
with data stored in Microsoft OLAP Server. I'd
recommend this one for any front-end developer
who needs to understand this form of data storage.
