IE 7 Users, Protect Thyself

I have to admit that I'm a fan of Google Chrome. I like its simplicity -- but sometimes it's just a bit too simple. It'll crash on Flash and inexplicably choke on some JavaScript. So my solution is to turn to IE 8. It's a bit slower, but more stable. It definitely was an easy upgrade decision from IE 7, which had its own set of problems that made me check out Chrome in the first place. (OK, I've mentioned this before, so excuse me for sounding like a broken record.)

If you're still on IE 7 and running Vista, there's an interesting security anomaly you should be aware of, detailed in a Microsoft bulletin from this month. In it, Microsoft recommends that you run IE with the protected mode setting turned on to prevent a remote code execution attack. Even with this setting turned on, Microsoft said to still apply the patch.

Are you still in IE 7 mode? What's keeping you from upgrading to IE 8? Chime in at dbarney@redmondmag.com.

Hi,
I've been able to use Internet explorer 8 but Every time I download it on my computer, it keep popping up with internet explorer has encounterd a problem and needs to close. If I take it back off then it works fine. I'm not quite sure what is causing this. If anyone would you please let me know. I'm sure it will be something simple.
Thank You

I've loaded 8 on 2 computers, frequently run into pages that I have to turn to "compatability mode" to view and sometimes still issues. I'm sick of bleed ware from MS. They can scare me all they want with security warnings but the truth is the newest thing always seems the most buggy/vulnerable. That is why most tech's don't upgrade to the newest flavor of MS anymore unless they just want to prepare/hone their skills.

We are a small architectural consulting firm with <10 node LAN. Upgraded my workstation (Dell Precision 450) to IE8 with mixed result. Was not possible to use a large project intranet utilizing SKIRE we must access (SKIRE doesn't support IE8 nor intends to for at least another 6 months), so have to run in compatibility mode. Our high speed DSL switch uses a web based interface which now renders pages exxxxxxtremely (painfully) slowly. Is no workaround for this that I've been able to find. Otherwise no issues (yet).
