Windows 7 Migrations Continue

It's good news, bad news time. First, the good news: A Forrester Research report says that the number of enterprises migrating to Windows 7 has doubled in the past year. The research firm said that 20 percent of all corporate PCs run the OS. The data comes from visitors who hit the Forrester Web site.

Now, the bad news (same report): One, Apple Mac usage has risen nearly two points, to 11 percent, since the last survey. Two, IE use has dropped to 87.6 percent. It'll be interesting to revisit this a year from now, to see if Google has any impact on either statistic.

my 'opinion' is that since MS has failed to capture the mobile market and Apple has dominated for several upgrade cycles, this has lead to more and more people, who have purchased iPhone & iPad products, taking a closer look at, and extending their affinity for, Apple products. It is my opinion that Apple's success in the consumer products market has lead to more people embracing the Mac as an acceptable computing platform and requesting/demanding it within the workplace. The only thing stiffling its acceptance in the enterprise, in my opinion, is Apple's slow response to making it easier to mange these devices in the enterprise along side of PC's. We recently had an Apple sales team in at my company!! Holy Shiat!! Who would have saw coming that 5 years ago? We were discussing the use of Apple iPads in the compnay environment and how to manage them with existing tools, ie MS SCCM (wow that is major step forward, among other tools) Needless to day, this PC fanboy will have to adjust his attitude toward alternate platforms.
