Microsoft Would Rather Place Dead Last on This List

Microsoft topped a recent survey of great places to work. But it also tops another list it probably would rather have nothing to do with: Most Hate Software Vendor.

I honestly don't understand consumer ire against the company. Products and the hardware partners who supply the boxes that Microsoft's software resides in are relatively inexpensive. So, for the sheer number of boxes out there with Windows on them, there's bound to be hundreds of thousands of complaints. (Top that off that you often don't hear from the many millions more who love or at least find their products mildly tolerable). I don't expect perfection, and there are times I curse and groan because of malware or Flash crash, but I still manage to get lots of work done. And even though Microsoft encourage upgrades to the newest thing, I'm still able to ply away on my laptop sporting XP safely because they've been supporting it for much longer than they really should have. And this laptop is on the Windows 7 compatibililty list, so I don't expect too many obstacles when I eventually upgrade. I could go on....

Microsoft's placement on this list is undeserved: agree or disagree here.

If people hate MS for their pricing then go with Apple. Soon you'll realize how expensive and not supportive of older programs Apple can be. MS may be expensive to replace but that tells me they have not dealt with Apple for business. There is a reason why MS products are targeted, 85% of market share paints a big target as oppose to barely 5% market for Apple. MS makes great products at a reasonable cost when you consider it all together. MS is not perfect, there is plenty to bitch about, but to hate in most cases is just playing with popularity without critical thinking.

I have to agree. What's maddening about Microsoft is that they compromise every aspect of their clients operations simply to attempt to justify a new version. They move features, shortcuts, and buttons so the product looks different. Do you know how that impacts productivity when you have mastered something and then have to research and then practice a new way to do the same thing? But worst of all, they completely compromise the security of the IT world because they reinvent the wheel with each new version, and in the process, reinvent the 600+ holes in their product. There are (400?) security patches for Windows XP. Instead of building on a platform that they have started to secure over a decade, they scrap the entire core and start from scratch. It's unacceptable if you ask me. Especially considering that pc's don't last very long anyway - thus their product must be purchased over and over anyway - even if they never changed it.

Well the nameless (sic) commentator who rubbishes me for not being in the business is wrong on all counts. If he/she/it hates Microsoft so much then stop selling it to your clients (are you making a profit from MS?) and buy the much cheaper SAP... as I said fickle & unwise

Look at the company behind the list, another one of their "findings" puts a Kardashian as the most loved reality TV star. Thier idea of "statistics" is pathetic.

Microsoft does not deserve to be on this list. They may have problems, and cause people grief for specific business practices and licensing models, but overall they have been instrumental in bringing computers to the masses. The bugs and faults and prevalence of malware and exploits on Windows is an indication of an extremely ubiquitous presence coupled with an incredibly comprehensive compatibility. Apple retains too much control over every aspect of their products and just isn't a juicy enough target...yet. From a support perspective, they are very responsive, and there are reams upon reams of support information and multitudes of tools and applications they provide for free. I know of several other software companies who are absolutely abysmal when it comes to supporting their product, and who charge ridiculous sums of money per seat who belong at the top of the list.

Obviously the blog writer and the two commenters don't work in the business world where three copies of ms project cost $1,500.00. I just quoted 100% replacement of all computers within a corporation because it is cheaper to but all new machines then buy new copies of Microsoft and office to load on each machine. Yes you can go with their "open licensing" program and have a cheaper up front cost, but that costs even more in the end. It's real world experience that makes them the most hated. Not the home user experience.

should not be on the list. But hey people are fickle and generally unwise... Microsoft have been fundamental in allowing the PC to exist as a ubiquitous object in business, government & homes. PCs are cheap quite frankly. Windows is comprehensive and easy to use. It is well supported and updated frequently... If it were left to IBM in the 80s then there would be 5-7 goliath computers dominating the continents, we might have a few thin clients if we were lucky. Apple have effectively forced prices up with slick marketing tricks, fooling people into exclusivity with their overpriced, overbaked, "trendy" ephemeral rubbish, making PCs less accessible to humanity. People really can be dumb. My hat is off to Microsoft, lang may it`s lum reek as we are known to say in Scotland.
