Microsoft Corp. released a preview version of its new XML parser. The new parser includes support for the W3C's latest recommendations of XSL Transformation (XSLT) and XML Path Language (Xpath) specifications for XML, which target certain source material and transform data to fit that material.
The new XML parser will handle some of the heavy-duty server-side processing involved in XML applications. Developers will be able to install this preview alongside their existing XML solutions and run their current applications as before, as the preview runs side by side with their existing parsers. The preview introduces new features that allow preloading and caching of commonly used XML documents and messages, enabling systems to validate and transform documents more quickly.
The new parser is the first in a series of planned technology previews from Microsoft (www.microsoft.com). The company plans to release previews regularly to allow products and services to be updated in "Web time" and to be compliant with the latest industry standards. -- Isaac Slepner
