From the business wires this week: software for documenting your network’s assets and vulnerabilities, a solution for joining heterogeneous systems to Active Directory, and network time servers.

Neon Software released version 9.5 of LANsurveyor for Windows, a network documentation software that incorporates asset management, network monitoring and vulnerability management capabilities. New features include improved Microsoft Office Visio exports, support for Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0, and Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) support. LANsurveyor 9.5 also uses new network discovery methods -- CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol) and LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) -- for improved discovery of complicated networks. Prefix Ltd. announced the addition of USB Guard to its PC management software, PrefixNE 2.2. USB Guard blocks a computer’s USB ports from accepting unauthorized external mass storage devices and is managed from PrefixNE’s application-based console, accessible from any network client computer. http://www.prefixit.com

Centrify announced the release of DirectControl Suite 2.1, which enables Unix, Linux and Mac computers to join a Microsoft Active Directory (AD) domain, providing authentication, access and policy services for these systems and their applications. Also included is a Windows-based Administrator Console for role-based access control of managed systems and for administering secure zones of heterogeneous systems.

The company also opened its Centrify Resource Center, a publicly accessible Web portal that offers links to downloadable, precompiled versions of widely used open source tools that work with DirectControl. The latest release of WinDeveloper Software’s IMF Tune enables anti-spam solutions to be integrated into Microsoft Exchange. All client-side functionality of the spam filters is accessible through the standard Outlook and Outlook Web Access interfaces. No client-side extensions or custom rules are involved; thus, deployment is centralized. Anti-spam filters are simply required to identify spam through a custom header or the e-mail subject. The network time servers synchronize clocks on computers and servers for large or expanding networks and are optimized for high-bandwidth next-generation networks (NGNs). Features include scalability and security, high availability and throughput of three independent 10/100Base-T Ethernet ports with IPv6 support, and managed through a Web interface with various setup wizards.
