Oracle, HP Break 300-GB Barrier for NT Database

Oracle Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. announced that the companies broke the 300-GB barrier in TPC-D testing of the Oracle8 database on HP’s new NetServer LXr 8000 server hardware. The new benchmark, which the companies claim is the fastest to date, achieved a price-performance rate of $518 per Qphd.
The HP server used in the new benchmarks was configured with four Xeon processors with 1 MB L2 cache each, with version 8.0.4 of Oracle’s database, and with Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition. The system was configured with more than 1.5 TB of storage space that contained the 766-GB Oracle database.
TPC-D benchmarks, conducted by the Transaction Processing Performance Council (www.tpc.org), consist of 17 comprehensive, complex queries and two update functions to be processed over a vast amount of data.
