NCD to Acquire Thin Client Business Unit of Tektronix

Network Computing Devices Inc. (NCD, Mountain View, Calif.,
www.ncd.com) announced today that it has reached an agreement in principle to acquire the Network Displays business unit of Tektronix Inc. (Wilsonville, Ore.,
www.tektronix.com) that produces Windows-based terminals, network computers and other thin client computing systems and software. Details of the purchase-of-assets transaction, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, were not disclosed.
Tektronix is a $2.1 billion company which primarily designs, develops, manufactures and markets measurement, color printing, video and networking products. It is considered a prominent provider and innovator of networking computing technology, having played a critical role in helping companies integrate thin client solutions across organizations for nearly a decade.
According to NCD's president and CEO, Robert G. Gilbertson, the company plans to ask most of the Tektronix employees to join NCD after the transaction closes in December. Commenting on the acquisition, Gilbertson says, "Tektronix has an outstanding new line of Windows-based terminals, network computers and browser terminals with excellent supporting software that will substantially broaden our ... product line. They also have an impressive customer base, broad experience in thin client technology and multi-user Windows software, and a top-flight technical staff."
