FastLane Announces Multi-Directory Application Builder

Directory vendors were leaping over themselves in a big way last week to announce forums and acquisitions positioning them as the "meta-directory" of choice. Today, representatives from FastLane Technologies (
www.fastlanetech.com) announced that their product, DM/Developer 7.0 doesn't really care what developers choose.
The new version of DM/Developer automates the management of directories for Windows NT, Novell NDS, Microsoft Exchange, ODBC, LDAP and Active Directory, including support for the Active Directory Services Interface (ADSI).
FastLane reports that one customer, Sybase Inc. (www.sybase.com), used an earlier version of the software to build an applicaton that streamlined account management for its employees that included a Unix login, SMTP mail, Windows NT domain, Lotus Notes mail and SQL database access.
DM/Developer 7.0 will be available as a standalone application and as a component of the FastLane DM/Suite. It will be available later this quarter, with additional ERP applications and Internet directory support to come in subsequent releases.
Last week, Microsoft Corp. announced the acquisition of Zoomit Corp., a developer of meta-directory solutions, to be integrated into future versions of Active Directory, after the initial release of Windows 2000 expected this Fall. This was followed later the same day by the announcement of the Directory Interoperability Forum, a group of industry heavyweights to support standards such as LDAP, for designing directory-enabled applications. -- Brian Ploskina
