IBM HotMedia 2.5 Available for Download

HotMedia 2.5, rich media software from IBM Corp. that allows developers to build bandwidth-intelligent, high-volume multimedia into existing business processes, is now available as a free download from the Web.
The latest release of HotMedia includes several new features and leverages Java technology, eliminating the need for accompanying plug-ins.
HotMedia 2.5 includes enhanced streaming audio with selectable quality that provides options to trade off bandwidth and listening experiences. A new authoring tool GUI for Windows and Mac platforms provides copy/paste and other functionality. Player control API for JavaScript control of HotMedia enables creation of customized navigation and playback controls. Other new features include image scrolling, floating tool tips for hot spots, user specified time intervals for automatic transition from thumbnail for additional control of page download characteristics, and event triggers for creating rich media components such as mouse-overs. Addtionally, HotMedia leverages the use of Java technology. The HotMedia player applet is broken into small components, around 10 Kb each in size, which are delivered to the user on an as-needed basis. This technology eliminates the need for plug-ins.
