NCR Releases Terabyte Data Warehousing Benchmark

NCR Corp. published a terabyte data warehouse performance benchmark on Windows 2000. The TPC-R benchmark was performed using NCR's Teradata relational database management system (RDBMS) for active data warehousing.

The benchmark was run on a 16-node NCR (www.ncr.com) WorldMark 5200 MPP (massively parallel processing) server that used 64 Pentium III Xeon 550 MHz processors running Teradata V2R4 and Windows 2000. Teradata extends the Microsoft (www.microsoft.com) Windows 2000 operating system so it can support enterprise data warehouses. Teradata offers parallelism, scalability -- from 10 gigabytes to over 100 terabytes -- and system management features for users who will be looking to build their data warehouse systems on Windows 2000.

NCR performed this benchmark in real world conditions, and is one of the first vendors to run one terabyte, multiple stream, TPC-R benchmark on Windows 2000. Using 7 streams, the benchmark results yielded 21,254 composite queries per hour and the price/performance was $607. Availability will be August 31, 2000. - Alicia Costanza
