WECA Issues First Round of Wi-Fi Certification

The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA, www.wi-fi.org) awarded the first Wi-Fi certifications for wireless LAN product interoperability.

This certification means that wireless LAN products bearing the Wi-Fi logo manufactured by different vendors will be compatible and work together out of the box.

The Wi-Fi logo, a new consumer brand identity, serves as the seal of interoperability for IEEE 802.11b High Rate wireless LAN products.

The products granted approval in the first round of certification include:

  • 3Com Corp.’s (www.3com.com) AirConnect 11Mbps Wireless LAN PC Card and AirConnect 11Mbps Wireless LAN Access Point.
  • Enterasys Networks Inc.’s (www.enterasys.com), RoamAbout 802.11b DS High Rate PC Card -- RoamAbout AccessPoint 2000.
  • Cisco Systems Inc.’s (www.cisco.com) Aironet 340 Series Access Point with the Aironet 340 Series Wireless PC Card.
