CMD Technology Debuts Titan 2.0 Firmware Updates

CMD Technology Inc. announced the availability of a new firmware package that contains five advanced features for the company's Titan RAID controllers. The package is being made available through a Firmware 2.0 software update.

The new firmware update helps to ensure data integrity and prevents data loss and corruption due to power losses or cable failures. The features consist of SANmask LUN masking, SAF-TE support, S.M.A.R.T. device support, online expansion capabilities, and non-disruptive firmware updates.

SANmask LUN masking is a feature for users who wish to control which host computers in a SAN have access to RAID sets on a Titan RAID controller. In homogeneous SAN topologies in which differing platforms have incompatible file systems, SANmask alleviates potential problems by only permitting a given platform to see disks designed for its use, while masking RAID sets that are incompatible.

Support for SAF-TE and SES protocols provides users the ability to integrate disk chassis status monitoring into the Titan RAID controller's status screen and provide failure alerts to users in the event of a disk chassis component failure. S.M.A.R.T. protocol support allows users to receive proactive and predictive failure notification from a drive that has sensed it is about to fail.
