NetIQ Lubricates Exchange 2000 Migration

A network management vendor may have a solution for one
of the biggest challenges NT administrators face – migrating their mail servers
from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000. Exchange 2000’s heavy reliance on Active
Directory may make the task a difficult one.
NetIQ Corp. is
previewing their Exchange Migrator 1.o product at the Microsoft Exchange and
Collaborations Solutions Conference in Dallas, Texas. The product offers
wizards from moving Exchange 5.5 information to Exchange 2000 servers.
Granular migration – the ability to move individual
mailboxes distribution lists, and public folders between machines – is the
functionality NetIQ believes will sell the product. NetIQ currently has products for transferring NT 4.0 users and domains
to Active Directory, so the product is Exchange specific.
NetIQ expects to release the product in the first half
of 2001. Because Exchange 2000 adoption is expected to be relatively slow – Exchange
2000 is a complex piece of software – NetIQ may not lose much market share from
the lag time. - Christopher McConnell
