TSS Watches Your ACLs

Trusted Systems Services (TSS) has upgraded its command-line utilities for managing Access Control Lists to deal with new administration complexities Microsoft introduced with Windows 2000.

SuperCACLs version 3.0 includes utilities for printing, replacing and modifying the regular ACLs and Audit SACLs of both the NTFS file system and Registry, on local and remote hosts.

According to TSS president Steve Sutton, some of Microsoft’s changes with Windows 2000 turn “the entire pre-Windows 2000 world of ACL management upside-down.” TSS skirts some of the issues by creating a privilege override mode that lets a privileged administrator override Windows 2000 ACL protections that complicate administration.

The product works with both Windows NT and Windows 2000.
