Microsoft's Business Mapping Software RTMs

Microsoft Corp. released its business mapping software, MapPoint 2002, to manufacturing this week.

While MapPoint doesn't ship in any Office bundles, the software shares an Office-style interface and is built to integrate closely with other Office software.

New features for business include a territories wizard, allowing users to define the geographic units that best fit their business; drive-time zones, indicating how far someone can drive from a place in a given period of time; and new data mapping with charts.

The version also includes an Office Add-In to install a MapPoint toolbar button or menu items on other Office programs. MapPoint also includes smart tags for use with Word 2002 and Excel 2002.

General availability is expected for late May. Estimated retail price is $250.
