IBM Consolidates Workstations Under IntelliStation Line

IBM Corp. this week said it is consolidating Unix and Windows-based workstations under the IntelliStation brand, and it is adding Linux support to the lineup.
IBM had previously sold Intel-processor workstations loaded with Windows under the IntelliStation line. The marketing move involves adding a Unix workstation, with a 450 MHz, 64-bit POWER3 processor, to the brand.
Big Blue has had the workstations tested for Linux compatibility. "IBM now offers the same level of Linux support on the workstation as it does with Microsoft Windows and Unix environments," IBM said in a statement.
Several workstations in the IntelliStation Pro line have been fitted with faster Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Xeon processors, ranging up to 2.2 GHz. Those models, supporting Windows and Linux, are the E Pro 6204, E Pro 6214, M Pro 6229 and M Pro 6850.
