IBM Introduces Web Services Demos For Developers

IBM Corp. this week posted demos of Web services built using its tools and server software to get developers to playing with the tools and thinking about ways to incorporate Web services into their businesses.

IBM is one of several vendors, including Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and Borland, trying to push their toolsets in front of developers as the development community begins to plan for using Web services.

The IBM "Web Services Demos" appear on IBM's developerWorks site, at www.ibm.com/developerWorks.

Along with the demos are code, documentation and links to free trial versions of IBM tools and middleware used in the demos.

There are two initial demos, built using WebSphere Studio and running on the WebSphere Internet infrastructure and IBM's DB2 database.

One is a fictitious video rental store service providing online rental services for video stores and store customers. The other consists of weather forecasts obtained through SOAP messages from the National Weather Service. IBM promises to update the collection frequently.

"Web services are quickly becoming an integral part of application development. With the release of the 'Web Services Demos collection on developerWorks, IBM is providing developers with real examples they can use," Gina Poole, IBM vice president of developer marketing and Web communities, said in a statement.
