Intel Releases 1.4 GHz, 1.7 GHz Celerons

Intel refreshed its value line of desktop processors this week with new Celerons at speeds of 1.7 GHz and 1.4 GHz.

The processors have a mix of technologies that results in the slower clockspeed processor having a slightly higher price.

The 1.4 GHz Celeron is based on a 0.13-micron process and features a 100 MHz front side bus. It costs $89 each in 1,000-unit quantities.

The 1.7 GHz Celeron is based on a larger 0.18-micron process but features a faster 400 MHz front side bus. That processor lists for $83 each in 1,000-unit quantities.

Earlier in the week, Intel cut prices on existing Celeron processors to make room at the top of the price list for the new silicon. A 1.3 GHz model dropped to $74, a 1.2 GHz Celeron fell to $69 and a 1.1-GHz model went down to $64, all in 1,000-unit quantities.
