Microsoft Business Solutions Ships Great Plains 8.0

Microsoft on Tuesday shipped version 8.0 of Great Plains, its packaged financial management software for mid-market companies across all business sectors.

Microsoft Business Solutions-Great Plains 8.0 is the first of four enterprise resource planning (ERP) product releases Microsoft plans over the next year. The roadmap calls for Solomon 6.0 in July, Navision 4.0 later this year and Axapta 4.0 next year. The products are related by five broad goals Microsoft is engineering into each: improving total cost of ownership, building adaptive processes, empowering users, connecting businesses and bringing insight.

Improvements specific to the 8.0 version of Great Plains include a user interface overhaul to make the GUI similar to Outlook 2003; a more comprehensive view of inventory; the ability to use existing transactions as the basis for new ones; and more flexibility in managing journal entries.

The Standard Edition starts at $4,500 for a single user. The Professional edition starts at $6,500 for a single user.
