From the business wires this week: a solution to ease deployment of network devices, software that helps detect security risks in code, and a backup and recovery system.

Altiris released Altris Deployment Solution for Network Devices, a quarantine system which enables provisioning and configuration of network devices, such as routers and switches. The enterprise-level solution also offers VLAN, virtual IP and port management as well as the ability to migrate VLAN configurations between switches, regardless of vendor. Other features include Layer 2 connectivity discovery with topology mapping and Visio export. http://www.altiris.com

Compuware Corporation announced a host of new additions to its XPEDITER product line aimed at helping enterprise organizations deliver more reliable mainframe applications. Compuware Program Analyzer assists developers in understanding mainframe COBOL applications. The other new releases, XPEDITER/CICS and XPEDITER/Code Coverage, aid in testing and analysis of middleware and service oriented architecture deployments, including IBM WebSphere MQ. http://www.compuware.com

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) released CleverPath Portal r4.7, a solution that simplifies personalized delivery of business process information to IT and business users. Integrating a portal-oriented content management system, CA’s updated software product is available in 10 languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. It supports the latest versions of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Linux on IBM mainframes, and the Java Runtime Environment. http://ca.com

SugarCRM Sugar Cube 1005

Sugar Cube 1005's turnkey system runs on a Pentium 4 processor with hyperthreading.

Sugar Cubes, made-to-order server appliances from SugarCRM Inc., will be pre-installed with the customizable visible source sales force automation system Sugar Sales Professional. They will come in two versions: The Sugar Cube 1005 is targeted for smaller companies and can handle up to 100 users and 1 million data rows; the Sugar Cube 3005, designed for larger companies, can support a more robust 400 users and 10 million data rows. Both units come in 1U form factor and feature a DVD player, removable disc drives and dual 10/100 network cards. The 1005 comes standard with two 80GB SATA hard disk drives and starts at $4,495. A set of security tools from Fortify Software helps enterprises plug holes in software code that can undermine the entire network. Fortify Audit Workbench reports these vulnerabilities and prioritizes them for security professionals to resolve in order of threat, while Fortify Rules Builder can create custom rules that extend Fortify Source Code Analyzers to check for security flaws. The Fortify Source Code Analysis Suite is available in three configurations: Enterprise, Team and Developer Desktop. It supports application programming languages like C, C++, Java, JSP, PL/SQL and C#. Seagate Technology has begun shipping its new Cheetah 15K.4 drive, currently available in Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel interfaces with a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interface due out in early Q1 2005. The disc drive, touted to deliver 30 percent more I/O transactions per second than 3.5-inch 10K-RPM drives, is available in 36, 73 and 147GB capacities for $329, $659 and $1,315, respectively. http://www.seagate.com
