Plug-in Enables Hot Backup of SQL Data

Arkeia is shipping a plug-in for hot backup of Microsoft SQL Server databases.

The Arkeia Network Backup plug-in for SQL Server lets IT managers back up servers without impacting operations. It takes advantage of the embedded capabilities in SQL Server’s backup and restore functions, and also incorporates Virtual Device Interface technology to enable backups in Windows environments with a Linux or Unix backup server.

The new plug-in joins a plug-in for hot backup of PostgreSQL databases, which the Carlsbad, Calif. firm shipped last month, and is part of a growing library of plug-ins. Besides SQL Server and PostgreSQL, Arkeia has plug-ins for hot backup of Oracle, DB2, Lotus, MySQL, LDAP and Microsoft Exchange.

The plug-in supports SQL Server 7, SQL Server 2000 and later versions. The plug-in is priced at $990.
