Legato Systems Delivers Disaster Recovery Tools

Legato Systems Inc. has released Octopus 4.0, a data replication and disaster recovery software package for Windows 2000. Octopus 4.0 will provide real-time data protection and high availability on Windows 2000 servers.
In addition, Octopus 4.0 will protect Microsoft Cluster Servers (MSCS) by replicating the data from remote servers outside the cluster to other clusters or stand-alone systems for disaster recovery purposes.
The replication process offers improved performance by eliminating disk writes during the normal replication process, instead capturing updates to files on a source system and fowarding the updates to the specified target system and applying them to the corresponding file. Check-sum binary compare for incremental synchronization determines which files have changed, extracts only those changes, and copies them instead of the entire file. A site list allows Octopus to retain a list of network sites even after the service has been stopped.
A new specification dialog box allows users to select files to be replicated from a file tree view similar to that of Windows NT. The specification wizard is now the default for configuring specifications, and the synchronization cancel option allows a synchronization already in progress to be stopped.
