Windows 2008 Backups (Exam 70-642)

Answer: A, C, D. The Windows Server 2008 backup utility doesn't support magnetic tape, but does include tape drivers.

There is a version of NTBackup.exe available from Microsoft downloads for restoring backups previously created with Windows 2003.


To perform scheduled backups, a USB or IEEE 1394 external drive is recommended. Wbadmin is the command-line version of backup. Backups can also be accomplished using the MMC snap-in or Windows PowerShell commands.

Tip: The Windows 2008 backup creates VHDs which can be mounted in a virtual PC as secondary disks using VPC 2007 or VS 2005.
