Microsoft Invests in High-Speed Network

Microsoft Corp. announced a strategic relationship with Qwest Communications International Inc. (www.qwest.com), a Denver-based telecommunications company that is building a high-speed fiber optic network in the United States.

As part of the deal, Microsoft will invest $200 million in Qwest, and will license "a broad range software" to the telecommunications company. Once Qwest's network is running next year, it will launch a number of electronic commerce, Web application hosting, streaming media, managed software and virtual private networking services that will be based on Microsoft platforms. --Michele Rosen, Staff Reporter/New York Correspondent
