Microsoft to Appeal Java Ruling

Microsoft Corp. announced Wednesday that is has appealed the Nov. 17 preliminary injunction ruling in the Sun Microsystems Inc. lawsuit against Microsoft. The injunction forced Microsoft to comply with the Sun Java standard in all its products.

Microsoft is arguing that the licensing contract with Sun allows Microsoft to "improve and enhance" Java for Windows.

Earlier, Microsoft had said it would comply with the injunction. It has already made a revised and compliant Java virtual machine available to Windows customers on its web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/mach.htm. --Michele Rosen, Staff Reporter/New York Correspondent
