Jean-Yves Dexmier took over Informix Corp. as president and chief executive officer today.
Dexmier, formerly executive vice president of field operations and chief financial officer at Informix, inherits the job from Robert J. Finocchio, who will remain chairman of the board of directors. Dexmier also joins the board.
The announcement precedes the company’s eighth annual worldwide conference, which starts Tuesday.
Menlo Park, Calif.-based Informix has traditionally been a database management system vendor, although the company has been aggressively repositioning itself as an Internet-centric company.
“We are highly focused on opportunities in the Internet and business intelligence markets,” Dexmier said in an official statement which echoed the themes Informix management has been sounding for months.
During the Informix conference, called Solutions Portal ’99, Informix is expected to officially launch Internet Foundation.2000, an information management platform based on object relational technology that has been in development for three years. The company is also expected to demonstrate beta versions of its next enterprise data warehouse engine, code-named “Yellowstone.” – Scott Bekker
