Microsoft Corp. launched the XML Developer Center on its MSDN Web site on Wednesday. The site is a tool for developers who need information on building XML enabled applications.
Features of the site include technical information, an XML developer's guide, technical articles, XML samples and downloads, expert chats and peer help.
The site discusses ways to make legacy apps work on the Internet using Microsoft's still-to-be-released BizTalk XML server, native XML capabilities in the still-to-be-released Windows 2000 operating system and other helpful articles.
This XML Developer Center, which can be found at http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/default.asp, is not to be confused with BizTalk.org, a site Microsoft launched several months ago that's aimed at providing more information on news surrounding the BizTalk framework and schemas.
Microsoft is still working on launching a BizTalk server soon after the release of Windows 2000, possibly later this year or early in 2000.
The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS, www.oasis-open.org) has its own XML site, XML.org, a repository for XML schemas and implementation specifications. XML.org and the OASIS effort have been backed by vendors including IBM Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc., Oracle Corp. and Novell Inc. Although Microsoft was not a founder of the OASIS effort, it later joined and now supports the effort. -- Brian Ploskina
