Microsoft confirmed Tuesday that it will launch Windows 2000 on Feb. 17 at
the IDG World Expo's Windows 2000 Conference and Expo in Las Vegas.
Microsoft officials told attendees at its Partners Marketing Day in Las
Vegas this week that Windows 2000 would be released to manufacturing in 1999
to meet the Feb. 17 goal. The product currently is available in beta as Release Candidate 2; the final
Release Candidate 3 is expected around mid-November.
In a statement released Tuesday, Microsoft says that "While the final
release depends on continued positive feedback from early-adopter customers
regarding quality and on meeting shipment criteria, Microsoft plans to have
general retail, channel and OEM availability of Windows 2000 on Feb. 17,
2000."
