Brocade Communications Systems Inc. introduced additions to its Silkworm line of Fibre Channel switches for Storage Area Networks. The three new models – the 2010, the 2040, and the 2050 – are designed for the entry-level market and bring the Silkworm switch family into competition with managed hubs, Brocade executives say. Each model has seven fixed ports and a GBIC port. The Silkworm 2010 and Silkworm 2040 are software upgradeable to full switched fabric topologies. The Silkworm 2010 logically connects all eight ports on the switch into a single loop. The Silkworm 2040 is designed for single-switch fabric topologies. The Silkworm 2050 is full-fabric capable and supports cascading and any-to-any connectivity among systems and storage devices. General availability is planned for Q1 2000.
