Gadzoox Releases New SAN Switch

Gadzoox Networks Inc. has rolled out a switch that may ease the adoption of Storage Area Networks (SAN) on the entry-level scale. The Capellix 2000 Stackable SAN Switch offers modularity and stackability, allowing managers to introduce SANs at a smaller level, while offering the ability to expand with future needs.
Like the earlier Capellix 3000 Modular SAN Switch, the new switch uses plug-in module expansion, allowing switch upgrades while maintaining the present hardware. If the network outgrows the present switch, another can be added and stacked, eliminating the need to buy a larger switch.
Unlike most eight-port switches, the Capellix offers three full bandwidth ports for adding additional switches. It is possible to link fixed configuration switches, but it requires the use of the standard switching ports. Capellix 2000 boasts a 12 Gbps switching engine, an impressive figure for an eight-port switch.
The switch supports the FC-AL protocol, designed for both switched and unswitched SANs. It is particularly useful in low end Windows and NetWare networks.
