ORLANDO – Microsoft Corp. today announced that it made a Visual Studio 6.0 toolkit available for simple object access protocol, otherwise known as SOAP, here at the TechEd conference.
SOAP is an open standards-based protocol that uses XML as a common messaging format to link together applications and services on the Internet.
The toolkit, which is available as a free download from the Microsoft Developer Network Web site, includes source code and adds new features to Visual Studio 6.0.
"The toolkit provides the plumbing to build Web services with Visual Studio 6.0," says Dave Mendlen, Microsoft’s Visual Studio product planner.
The SOAP toolkit includes wizards to turn Windows applications into Web services, as well as to enable developers to build applications that use Web services. – Thomas Sullivan
