Hiawatha Island Software Company Inc. (HiSoftware) has released metaPackager, a knowledge management (KM) software product that enables cataloguing and archiving of unstructured information, such as e-mail, PDF files, scanned documents, and .wav files.
The solution automatically enables the use of rich XML, HTML, and XHTML metadata with any file type to do a fielded search and retrieve information from an intranet or the Internet. metaPackager also packages individual digital objects and collections of data with XML, HTML, or XHTML metadata.
metaPackager includes other features as well. A wizard-based user interface requires no knowledge of XML or HTML; metadata elements can be updated in batch form; and digital signatures are implemented to increase document security and prevent altering of the data.
To run metaPackager, users must have Windows NT server and IIS version 4.0 and later. Currently available, metaPackager Server for the enterprise starts at $2,120. A 15 day trial version is available on the Web site.
