JNI Corp. announced the availability of its newest 2 Gb/s
products for beta testing, the 2 Gb/s Ready FibreStar FCE-6460 Fibre
Channel-to-PCI and FCE-1473 Fibre Channel-to-SBus host bus adapters (HBAs),
based on JNI’s new Emerald IV Fibre Channel controller.
The 2 Gb/s Ready FibreStar HBAs have been tested and
qualified on a variety of operating system platforms, including servers and storage
subsystems. By the beta shipping date, the HBAs will be running on Sun Solaris
and Microsoft Windows NT. Subsequent driver releases will include Windows 2000,
HP-UX, IBM AIX, Novell NetWare, and Red Hat Linux. The FCI-6460 and FCE-1473 2
Gb/s HBAs will offer a range of new features, including IP and SCSI protocols,
FC-Tape support, and 1 or 2 Gb/s auto rate negotiation. This on demand feature
will enable a smooth and automatic migration path to 2 Gb/s-enabled SANs by
enabling the FCE-6460 and FCE-1473 to operate in 1 Gb/s, 2 Gb/s, or mixed Fibre
Channel environments.
The 2 Gb/s Ready FibreStar HBAs offer peak throughput
performance of up to 400 MB/s in full-duplex mode, and around 200 MB/s in
half-duplex (PCI only).
Both of the new HBAs feature JNI’s newest ASIC controller,
the JNIC-1460, also known as the Emerald IV.
