Symantec Corp. announced the launch of a new Web site
designed for Internet security designed to give home users information about
their individual Internet security needs. The site features Symantec Security Check,
a Web-based tool to evaluate potential online security threats and recommended
solutions.
Symantec Security Check determines whether the PC is
susceptible to hackers, viruses, and privacy threats, and provides
recommendations for protection. The site provides detailed descriptions of
online security threats to users with broadband connections, and advises steps
that can be taken to reduce the threats.
Symantec Security Check is Web-based and utilizes several
software scanners to hunt for vulnerabilities. It searches for open ports, open
file-sharing access, as well as viruses and Trojan horses. The tool also
examines whether the browser contains any stored personal information.
The site is located at www.symantec.com/securitycheck.
