Two weeks after Dell’s recall of thousands of its
notebook computer batteries, Compaq Computer Corp. announced a voluntary recall
and replacement for approximately 55,000 battery packs used in Armada E500 and
V300 notebooks. The battery packs can short circuit, causing them to smoke and
possibly catch fire.
Compaq customers affected by the recall can receive two free
replacement battery packs for each recalled battery.
The recalled battery pack can be identified by a date code
and serial number on the white label to the right of the battery connector. The
recalled batteries feature the following serial numbers: TCGK 00001-10500; TCGK
20001-21800; TCGK 40001-83100; and TCHK 40001-44700. – Isaac Slepner
