Open Market’s Content Server 3.1 is the current leader of
the content management pack, according to
Forrester
Research Inc.
"To steer clear
of content chaos, companies need to bring order, flexibility and control to
growing Web sites,” Forrester’s report says, and Open Market’s offering topped
the list of 12 vendor’s products.
Other content management programs receiving high marks from
Forrester included Documentum’s 4i 4.2; BroadVision; and Vignette’s V/5 Suite
5.5. “We found that [products from]
Open Market, Documentum, BroadVision, and Vignette… make users immediately
productive and exercise the right level of content quality,” the report states.
Forrester rated the
products on a scale of 0-5, and the fact that Content Server 3.1 won with a
score of just 3.0 indicates just how much room for improvement there is in the
content management market. Documentum’s score was 2.9, while BroadVision and
Vignette were tied with a score of 2.8.
Forrester hailed
what it called Content Server’s “solid content management features with a
topnotch runtime…Open Market shines in key areas like content creation, library
services, personalization, and delivery.”
The content
management and content delivery network fields are started to get very crowded,
and Forrester believes the companies that survive will be the ones whose
products “are easy-to-use and offer both strong workflow and version control.”
