Wyse Fattens Thin Client Resources

Wyse Technology Inc. announced today
that it would purchase network management software vendor
Netier Technology Inc. The purchase adds a
software product line to a company known primarily for hardware.
“It
positions us to move into the management of embedded devices,” says John
Truitt, director of product marketing at Wyse. Wyse has a slate of solid-state,
thin clients ranging from Windows CE Web terminals to NT-Embedded machines
capable of operating independently, but lacked the ability to manage the
devices on a network.
Netier also
has a line of thin clients, but the plum for Wyse was Netier’s Rapport
software. Rapport offers administrators the ability to manage and monitor thin
clients and other small devices on the network. Like Wyse, Netier has focused
on Windows terminals and other NT-Embedded technologies.
With the
addition of Rapport, Wyse is able to offer customers a comprehensive solution
for end-user computing. Truitt says
that Rapport will simplify one of the major challenges facing administrators of
thin client environments – how to deliver applications to thin client users.
Although
Wyse products are historically hardware, Truitt says that Wyse focuses on the
concept of the thin-client. “We pioneered the idea of the Windows terminal,” he
says. The addition of Netier’s properties allows Wyse further realize its
concept.
Because
Netier is a privately held company and Wyse is incorporated in Taiwan,
financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. – Christopher McConnell
