Another Change at the Microsoft Helm

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer today announced a few changes to the
Microsoft management team, including the naming of Rick Belluzzo as the company's
new president and COO.
Belluzzo was named president and COO after the news that Bob
Herbold -- Microsoft’s president and COO for the past six-and-a-half years --
decided to retire. Herbold will not entirely leave Redmond behind, but will
instead act as a part-time representative for Microsoft during consumer and
industry activities.
Joining Microsoft in September of 1999, Belluzzo quickly
ascended the ranks. Before heading to Microsoft, he was CEO of Silicon
Graphics, and was an executive vice president at Hewlett-Packard.
In his new role, Belluzzo will guide business strategy and
direct business operations, sales, marketing, and business development. He will
also be a strong force in directing Microsoft’s non-PC businesses. He will
ultimately report to Ballmer.
By handing off some of his responsibilities to Belluzzo, Ballmer
will have more time to focus on the company’s strategic direction -- working closely
with Bill Gates and the other product team leaders.
Other changes to the Microsoft team include the promotion of
Deborah Willingham, from vice president of Windows Division marketing to senior
vice president for human resources; and John Connors, senior vice president of
finance and administration and CFO -- in addition to his current duties -- will
now be responsible for Microsoft’s Information Technology Group and for
manufacturing/licensing operations. –Alicia
