Symantec Updates pcAnywhere

Symantec Corp. this week released version 10.0 of its venerable pcAnywhere remote control software for IT helpdesks, server administrators and power users. The new version enhances the security and installation of pcAnywhere and includes a new Optimization Wizard for remote connections.

Mandatory password protection, comprehensive logging and an encryption wizard are new with the latest version. Symantec has added eight authentication types including LDAP, Novell Directory Services and Microsoft Active Directory Services. A new feature called Remote Access Perimeter Scanner checks corporate networks to verify that all remote access hosts are configured securely.

The new Optimization Wizard is a tool for improving the performance of remote connections, and supports cable modems and DSL connections. Symantec also claims special new connection optimizations for Windows 2000 users.

Single seat retail price for pcAnywhere is $179.
