Kournikova Worm February’s Top Virus

Sophos Anti-Virus, a vendor of corporate anti-virus solutions, released the list of the top ten viruses affecting enterprises in February. Topping the list this month was the VBS/SST-A worm, also known as the Anna Kournikova worm.

The Kournikova worm consisted of 38.2 percent of the virus reports to Sophos in February.

“This month’s biggest virus … was not the work of a genius,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos. “Yet it still managed to fool hundreds of thousands of people around the world.”

“Think before you click,” Cluley added.

The W32/Apology-B virus was second on the list, amounting to 11.7 percent of complaints to Sophos. Rounding out the list were W32/Hybris-B, VBS/Kakworm, W32/Navidad-B, W32/Flcss, VBS/Lovelet-AS, WM97/Marker-C, Troj/JetHome, and W32/Verona-B. Viruses other than the top ten contributed to 19.9 percent of complaints to Sophos. – Isaac Slepner
