CommVault Extends Backup Software to HP-UX, Linux

CommVault Systems today upgraded its CommVault Galaxy backup software with media management capabilities and broader operating system support.

The new version, 3.1, adds support for the HP-UX and Red Hat Linux operating systems.

Windows NT/2000, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Oracle, Lotus Domino and several flavors of Unix are among the platforms already supported in previous versions.

New storage management features of the software add to CommVault’s core product focus, which is to manage distributed, heterogeneous computing environments in a way that allows administrators to view data logically rather than physically.

A major new media management feature is the capability for intelligent software-based dynamic drive sharing, which CommVault identifies as a key requirement for SAN deployments.
