Host Integration Server Gets a Boost From NetManage

Microsoft Corp. turned to a host access vendor to extend the capabilities of its Host Integration Server 2000. NetManage Inc. this week unveiled its connectivity plug-in for HIS 2000, called OnWebTransaction Integrator (OnWebTI).

Through OnWebTI, developers using HIS 2000 can connect to screen-based host applications that are accessed through 3270 and 5250 terminals.

Burt Rankin, vice president of marketing for NetManage, says the company worked closely with Microsoft to integrate its technology with the HIS 2000 interface.

“It has exactly the same look and feel as if you were using Host Integration Server,” Rankin says.

OnWebTI connects to the back-end systems and publishes the information into the Microsoft world as COM objects, Rankin says.

The plug-in will be sold through Microsoft’s consulting organization.

Also this week, NetManage updated OnWeb, the product that the HIS 2000 plug-in is based on. Version 5.1 of OnWeb 5.1, which extends host applications to the Web, is currently shipping with prices starting at $2,500 for a single-processor system.
