Redmond Unveils Windows .NET Server Exams

New exams planned for general availability in early 2002.

Microsoft continues to beef up its line-up of Windows XP/.NET offerings within the MCSE track, with an announcement of three more exams that are slated for availability some time in 2002:

  • 70-275, Installing, Configuring and Administering Windows .NET Server
  • 70-276, Implementing and Administering a Windows .NET Server Network Infrastructure
  • 70-277, Implementing and Administering a Windows .NET Server Directory Services Infrastructure

According to Anne Marie McSweeney, director of Microsoft's certification and skills assessment group, "candidates will be able to mix-and-match" the exams they choose to fulfill the MCSE core requirements, which means the choices don't have to be exclusive to the Windows 2000 or Windows XP/.NET Server lines.

Here's how the exams will fit into the track:

MCSE Core Exams
70-210 Windows 2000 70-270 Windows XP Professional
70-215 Windows 2000 Server 70-275 Windows .NET Server
70-216 Implementing a Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure 70-276 Implementing a Windows .NET Server Network Infrastructure
70-217 Implementing a Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure 70-277 Implementing a Windows .NET Server Directory Services Infrastructure

A descriptive chart showing how these exams fit into the MCSE track is also available on Microsoft's MCP Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/trainingandservices/default.asp?PageID=mcp&PageCall=requirements&SubSite=cert/mcse&AnnMenu=mcse.

Exam objective guides for these three new exams were not available as of this writing. Prior to posting the exam information on its Web site, Microsoft had already announced a forthcoming 70-270, Windows XP Professional exam during its Microsoft Fusion 2001 Conference in Anaheim, Calif. (see "Windows XP to Debut in Q4" in the News archive). Microsoft has finally made the 70-270 exam objective guide available this week; you can view it at http://www.microsoft.com/trainingandservices/exams/examasearch.asp?PageID=70-270.
